MARKET ST. ART INSTALLATION

PROJECT SUMMARY

Client: AERO COLLECTIVE
Typology: Research
Location: Inglewood, CA
Status: Completed in 2015

The housing shortage crisis has plagued Los Angeles for decades, leading to higher rent and land prices and an ever growing population of displaced peoples. AERO COLLECTIVE had the opportunity to comment on this issue through art. These blue cardboard model houses were our first exhibition pieces for the city of Inglewood farmer’s market and art fair held on Market Street. Designed to resemble rain, the blue cardboard houses were positioned falling down the facade of our office. The installation linked our constant prayers for rain in Southern California and our current lackluster efforts of addressing the housing crisis. Since this installation there have been some moves by our local governments to attempt to address the situation with different degrees of success, but it often still feels like we are just hoping for rain to solve this crisis as well.
